Here is an uncomfortable truth from years of training Pakistani marketers: far more local businesses lose their Facebook pages to hackers and phishing than to Meta bans. The page you spent two years growing can disappear in one careless evening — and there is often no recovery. The good news: the protection takes ten minutes.
The scam that steals the most Pakistani pages
A message arrives to your page or profile: “Your Page has violated Community Standards. Appeal within 24 hours or your page will be deleted — click here.” It looks official. It is a phishing scam — the link opens a fake login screen that steals your password, and with it, your page.
Meta never messages your page like this. Real notices appear only inside the app — Support Inbox, Account Quality, or Page notifications — never as a chat message with an external link. Never click, never enter your password, and warn every admin on day one. The moment more than one person manages your page, this scam becomes your biggest risk.
The 10-minute setup that prevents disaster
Open Settings » Accounts Center » Password and security, and do these four things today:
- Two-factor authentication with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator or Authy) — not SMS. SMS codes can be intercepted or lost with your SIM.
- Save your recovery codes offline — printed or written down, not in the same email account a hacker would also control.
- Verify your email and phone, and remove old numbers and emails you no longer control.
- Check “Where you’re logged in” and log out every device you don’t recognise.
Never share passwords — share access
When a partner, brother, or employee needs to manage the page, the answer is never “here’s my password”. Meta Business Portfolio exists exactly for this: add people by email, give each person the minimum role they need (most staff never need Admin), and remove access the day someone leaves. Shared passwords mean shared bans — and no way to prove the account is yours when something goes wrong.
The habits that keep accounts alive long-term
- Manage your business from the same one or two trusted devices and networks — no VPNs. Consistency is itself a trust signal to Meta.
- Check your Account Quality page weekly, like a bank statement. It shows warnings while problems are still fixable.
- If something does get restricted: appeal once, honestly, with real documents. Frantic repeated appeals and YouTube “tricks” make cases worse.
- Never “start fresh” with a new profile after a restriction — Meta links accounts, and the new one usually dies faster than the first.
