The Beginner’s Guide for Pakistan
42 questions every beginner asks about Facebook pages, Meta ads, WhatsApp Business and ecommerce in Pakistan — answered honestly, with the costly mistakes to avoid.
2026 Edition • Free to read
Everything in this guide protects one thing: Meta’s trust in you. Meta decides who gets cheap reach, whose ads run smoothly, and whose accounts get restricted — and it decides based on trust signals you start building from day one. Beginners rarely fail because Facebook ads are hard. They fail because they burn their accounts, their money, or their patience before their skills catch up.
The questions below follow your journey in order — profile, page, security, business setup, WhatsApp, content, and only then ads and ecommerce. Don’t skip ahead: almost every disaster we’ve seen in our training batches came from doing step 8 before step 3.

Start Here — Mindset & Money
The questions every student asks in the first week — answered honestly.
Q1Do I need experience, a degree, or good English to start?
No. You need consistency, basic smartphone/computer skills, and the patience to follow a process.
Thousands of successful Pakistani marketers and store owners started from zero. What separates them is not talent — it’s that they learned the fundamentals in order and didn’t spend money before they were ready.
DO THIS ▸ Master the boring basics first: profile, page, security, Business Portfolio, content. Ads come after — and they’ll work far better because of it.
Q2How much money do I actually need to start?
Less than the gurus claim, but more than zero. Here are honest numbers for Pakistan:
| Stage | What you’re paying for | Realistic budget (PKR) |
|---|---|---|
| Learning & organic growth | Nothing — profile, page, content and WhatsApp are free | Free |
| First ad tests (services / local business) | Small daily budgets to learn the system | 15,000 – 30,000 / month |
| Ecommerce product test | Product stock + ads + packaging + courier | 60,000 – 100,000 total |
WARNING ▸ Anyone promising you profit from a PKR 5,000 ad budget is selling a dream. Treat your first budget as tuition fee for real-world data — plan it so a total loss doesn’t hurt your household.
Q3How long before I start earning?
For most students: 3–6 months of consistent work before meaningful income.
Month 1–2 is setup and skills. Month 2–3 is your first campaigns or client work. Real income — freelance clients, a job, or a profitable store — usually follows in month 3–6. Faster happens, but planning for it is how beginners get desperate and get scammed.
TIP ▸ Your first “earning” may not be money — it may be a working funnel, a 500-follower engaged page, or one happy client. Those compound.
Q4Can I do everything from my phone?
Content, WhatsApp and page management — yes. Serious ad management — no.
Business Portfolio setup, Pixel work and Ads Manager need a laptop or desktop; the mobile app hides half the controls and causes costly mis-clicks.
Your Facebook Profile
Your profile is the foundation every other asset sits on. Meta judges everything you build by it.
Q5Should I use my existing profile or create a new one?
Use your existing, real profile. Its age and history are trust you cannot buy.
Meta trusts accounts with years of genuine activity far more than fresh ones. A brand-new profile that immediately creates a page and runs ads is the classic restriction pattern.
DO THIS ▸ Real name, real photo, real date of birth, verified email and phone. Your profile info should match your payment card and ID — mismatches cause verification failures later.
Q6My profile IS new. Can I still start?
Yes — but warm it up for 2–4 weeks before any business use.
Use it like a normal human: add real friends, join groups, comment, post occasionally. Only then create your page, and wait longer before touching ads.
WARNING ▸ New profile + new page + new ad account + payment card, all in one week, is the single most common restriction story in our batches.
Q7Should I create multiple profiles — one for business, backups, etc.?
No. One real profile. Multiple accounts violate Meta’s terms.
Meta links accounts by device, number, and network. When it detects duplicates, it can disable all of them — including the real one your page depends on.
Q8Should I buy an old profile? People sell “aged accounts” in groups.
Never. This is a scam ecosystem, not a shortcut.
Sold profiles get recovered by the original owner (often deliberately, after payment), or disabled when Meta detects the ownership change from a new device, city and behaviour pattern. Everything you build on it — page, ad account, spend history — dies with it.
Your Page & Instagram
Built once, built right — your page is your shop front for years.
Q9When should I create my Facebook Page, and what makes a good one?
As soon as your profile is established — and complete every single field before you tell anyone about it.
- Profile photo (logo) and a clean cover image — real photos beat fancy graphics in Pakistan
- Correct category, honest description, city, and timings
- WhatsApp button connected — this will become your #1 conversion path
- At least 5–10 posts before you invite anyone
Q10Should I buy an old page, or buy likes and followers to look established?
Never — either one. This is the most expensive “cheap shortcut” in this industry.
Bought pages carry hidden policy strikes, dead or foreign audiences, and reach that never recovers. Fake likes are worse: they never buy anything, they crater your engagement rate, and Meta’s algorithm concludes nobody wants your content — so it stops showing it to real people too.
TIP ▸ 500 real local followers who message you are worth more than 50,000 fake ones. Every serious marketer can spot a bought page in five seconds — and so can Meta.
Q11What about the page name and username?
Simple, brandable, and consistent everywhere.
Pick a name you can also get as WhatsApp Business name, Instagram handle and (later) a .com/.pk domain. Don’t stuff keywords (“Best Cheap Online Shopping PK Deals”) — it looks like spam to customers and to Meta, and name changes on established pages are restricted and reviewed.
Q12Do I need Instagram too?
Yes. Create a professional (business) Instagram account and link it to your page from day one.
Instagram Reels are currently the cheapest organic reach in Pakistan — the same video posted as a Reel regularly gets several times the reach of a feed post. Linking the accounts in your Business Portfolio also lets one ad run on both platforms automatically.
Lock It Down — Security
Pakistani pages are lost to hackers and phishing far more often than to Meta bans. Ten minutes here saves your business.
Q13How exactly do I secure my accounts? (Not just “enable 2FA”)
Do these four things today — the menu path is Settings ▸ Accounts Center ▸ Password and security:
- Turn on two-factor authentication using an authenticator app (Google Authenticator/Authy) — SMS codes can be intercepted or lost with your SIM
- Download and save your recovery codes somewhere offline (not in the same email)
- Verify both email and phone number, and remove old numbers/emails you no longer control
- Check “Where you’re logged in” and log out every device you don’t recognise
WARNING ▸ Losing an admin profile with no 2FA is how most Pakistani businesses lose their page permanently. There is often no recovery.
⚠ The scam that steals the most Pakistani pages
A message arrives to your page or profile: “Your Page has violated Community Standards. Appeal within 24 hours or your page will be deleted — click here.” It looks official. It is a phishing scam — the link steals your password and your page.
Meta never messages your page like this. Real notices appear only inside the app: Support Inbox, Account Quality, or Page notifications — never as a chat message with an external link. Never click, never enter your password, and warn your team on day one.
Q14Can I share my login with a partner, brother, or employee?
Never share passwords — give access through roles instead.
Business Portfolio exists exactly for this: add people by email, give each the minimum role they need (most staff never need Admin), and remove access the day someone leaves. Shared passwords mean shared bans — and no way to prove the account is yours.
Business Portfolio & Paying for Ads
The professional setup — plus the payment realities nobody tells Pakistani beginners.
Q15What is Meta Business Portfolio? Is it the same as Business Manager?
Yes — same tool, new name. Meta renamed Business Manager to “Business Portfolio”, and that’s what today’s interface says (business.facebook.com).
It’s the control room that owns your business assets — Page, ad account, Pixel/dataset, Instagram, WhatsApp, catalogs — and controls who can access them. Set it up before you run ads: it separates business from personal, enables role-based access, and is required for many features.
Q16How many Business Portfolios and ad accounts should I create?
Exactly one of each. This is not a “create as needed” situation.
Creating multiple portfolios or ad accounts as a new user is a known restriction trigger — and new portfolios are limited to one ad account anyway until you build billing history. Agencies with many clients need more; a beginner does not.
WARNING ▸ If your account gets restricted, do NOT create a fresh profile/portfolio to “start over”. Meta links them, and the new one usually dies faster than the first. Appeal properly instead (see Part 10).
Q17How do I actually pay for ads from Pakistan?
This is the #1 practical blocker for Pakistani beginners — plan it before your first campaign.
| Option | Reality check |
|---|---|
| Pakistani bank Visa/Mastercard | Must have international online transactions enabled (ask your bank). Many local debit cards still fail on Meta due to State Bank forex restrictions. |
| Virtual / prepaid dollar cards | Widely used (Payoneer and local fintech USD cards). Works well IF you keep it funded — an empty card means failed payments. |
| Someone else’s card | Avoid. Name mismatch between profile, portfolio and card is a verification red flag. |
- Billing is in USD — budget with the current dollar rate in mind, plus roughly 5–10% extra for bank charges and taxes on international transactions
- Use ONE reliable card and keep it funded — failed payments are themselves a restriction trigger
- Don’t repeatedly add/remove/swap cards; it looks like fraud to Meta’s systems
Q18People offer “agency accounts”, “dollar accounts” or “ads chalwa dein” services. Should I use them?
As a beginner: no. This market is where most students get robbed.
Rented or “agency” ad accounts sold in Facebook groups mean someone else owns your ad account, your data and your balance. The common endings: the account vanishes with your dollars loaded, your page gets detached, or the reseller’s other clients get the whole account tree banned. Genuine agency accounts exist — through Meta’s authorised partners, for businesses spending thousands of dollars monthly — not through a WhatsApp forward.
DO THIS ▸ Learn to run your own account. The entire point of learning this skill is that you never need a middleman between you and Meta.
Q19Why is my daily spend limited? Can I raise it?
New ad accounts start with low daily spending limits on purpose. Trust raises them — nothing else.
Spend small and consistently (PKR 1,500–3,000/day is plenty at first), let every bill clear successfully, and keep ads policy-clean. Limits rise automatically over weeks. Sudden huge budgets on a fresh account are a restriction trigger, not a growth hack.
WhatsApp Business
In Pakistan, WhatsApp is where the money actually changes hands. Protect the number like a bank account.
Q20Normal WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business?
WhatsApp Business (the free app) — ideally on a separate SIM you keep forever.
- Complete the profile: business name, logo, description, address, timings, website/page links
- Set a greeting message, an away message, and quick replies for your 10 most common questions
- Use labels (New lead / Ordered / Delivered / Follow-up) — this is your first CRM
- Add a catalog if you sell products
TIP ▸ Your number is a business asset. Changing it later means losing every customer conversation — choose a SIM you’ll never rotate.
⚠ GB WhatsApp will get your number banned
GB WhatsApp, WhatsApp Plus, FM WhatsApp and every other modified app are explicitly banned by WhatsApp — detection leads to temporary and then permanent bans. Half of Pakistan uses them personally; using one on a business number is gambling your customer list on a novelty app. Official WhatsApp Business only — no exceptions.
Q21Can I send bulk promotional messages to numbers I collected?
Only to people who messaged you first or clearly opted in. Unsolicited bulk = ban.
WhatsApp bans on two signals: sending patterns (hundreds of messages from a new number) and reports/blocks from recipients. A few blocks from strangers you cold-messaged can finish a number.
- Warm up a new number — normal two-way chats for 1–2 weeks before any broadcasts
- Broadcast lists only reach people who saved your number — that’s your real opt-in list
- For scale later, use the official WhatsApp Business API with template messages — not bulk-sender tools sold in groups
Q22How fast do I need to reply?
Within 30–60 minutes during business hours — Pakistani leads go cold absurdly fast.
A customer who messaged you also messaged two competitors. First professional reply usually wins. Quick replies + a set schedule + away messages outside hours will beat “talented but sleeping” every time.

Ads rent attention. Content earns trust. You need both — in that order.
Q23What should I post? I run out of ideas in a week.
Rotate four content pillars — and sell in only one of them:
| Pillar (share) | What it is | Pakistani examples |
|---|---|---|
| Educate (40%) | Teach something your customer cares about | “3 signs of fake leather” • “Bridal budget breakdown” |
| Build trust (25%) | Proof you’re real and good | Customer reviews, order packing videos, your face, your shop |
| Entertain / relate (20%) | Light content your audience shares | Memes done tastefully, trends, behind-the-scenes fails |
| Sell (15%) | Offers and product posts | Price, benefit, WhatsApp CTA — clear and honest |
TIP ▸ Language matters: Roman Urdu connects with under-30 audiences; a clean Urdu-English mix works for parents and premium buyers. Pure corporate English reads as “foreign and expensive” in most local niches.
Q24How often should I post?
3–5 good posts a week, forever, beats 20 posts in week one and silence after.
Prioritise Reels — short vertical video is currently the highest-reach format on both Facebook and Instagram in Pakistan. Post in the evening window (roughly 7–11 pm) when Pakistani engagement peaks, and always add subtitles: most people watch on mute.
Q25Can I use famous songs, movie clips, or pictures from Google?
No — copyright strikes mute your videos, kill your reach, and can restrict your page.
Use the music built into the Reels editor and Meta’s Sound Collection, shoot your own product photos (phone cameras are enough), and never lift another brand’s creatives. Your own average photo outperforms a stolen perfect one — in reach and in trust.
Before Your First Ad
The pre-flight check. Money spent before this list is complete is mostly donated to Meta.
Q26How do I know I’m ready to run ads?
You’re ready when ALL of these are true:
- Page fully set up with 2+ weeks of real content and some organic engagement
- 2FA on every admin profile; Business Portfolio created; payment method tested
- WhatsApp Business set up with quick replies — and someone available to answer
- One clear offer (what, for whom, at what price) — not “everything for everyone”
- You’ve read Meta’s Advertising Standards once (30 minutes that saves accounts)
Q27What is the Meta Pixel — and do I need it before my first campaign?
The Pixel (now shown as a “dataset” in Meta’s interface) is code on your website that reports visitor actions back to Meta — so ads can optimise for people who actually buy.
If you have a website or Shopify store: install it before your first campaign, together with the Conversions API (one-click setup exists for Shopify and WordPress). If you’re starting with WhatsApp or lead-form campaigns only: you don’t need a Pixel to begin — don’t let it delay you.
Q28Which ad policies do beginners actually trip on?
These four cause most first-account rejections and restrictions in Pakistan:
- Personal attributes: ads may not imply things about the viewer — “Are you overweight?” / “Qarz mein dooby hue?” are violations
- Unrealistic promises: guaranteed income, guaranteed results, miracle cures, “lose 10kg in 10 days”
- Before/after photos for health, weight-loss and skin products
- Misleading content: fake buttons, fake discounts, clickbait that the landing page doesn’t deliver
WARNING ▸ Repeated rejections lower your account’s standing even if you fix each one. Write clean the first time.
Q29Anything to test before spending?
Click through your own funnel like a customer — on a phone, on mobile data.
Ad ▸ WhatsApp: does the pre-filled message arrive? Ad ▸ website: does it load in under 4 seconds on 4G, and does checkout work? Ad ▸ form: does the form submit, and does anyone actually contact the lead? A broken step wastes 100% of the budget behind it.
Running Ads Right — The 2026 Way
Meta’s ad system changed more in the last two years than the previous five. Here’s what actually matters now.
Q30Boost button or Ads Manager?
Ads Manager for anything serious. Boosting is acceptable only for simple awareness on a good post.
Boosts hide most objectives, optimisation and placement controls. And repeat warning: never boost from the iOS app — Apple’s ~30% service charge applies there.
Q31Which campaign objective should I choose?
The one that matches your real business goal — never the one with the cheapest results:
| Your goal | Objective to choose | Pakistan note |
|---|---|---|
| Sales on a website / store | Sales | Needs Pixel + Conversions API installed |
| Customer conversations | Messages (Click-to-WhatsApp) | The #1 converting format in Pakistan — forms get abandoned; WhatsApp gets sent |
| Collect inquiries | Leads (Instant Forms) | Works for education, services, real estate |
| Local shop visits / awareness | Awareness / Reach | Only for establishing presence — not for selling |
| Video audience building | Video views | Cheap warm audiences for retargeting later |
WARNING ▸ Engagement campaigns bring likers, not buyers. Running Engagement and expecting sales is the most repeated beginner mistake in every batch.
Q32What changed in Meta ads for 2026 that older YouTube tutorials get wrong?
The big shift: creative is the new targeting.
Meta’s current AI delivery system (the “Andromeda” era) and Advantage+ defaults now find your buyers mostly from your ad creative itself — who engages with it — rather than from detailed interest targeting. Old tutorials obsessing over stacking 15 interests are teaching 2020.
- Go broad: location + age range + Advantage+ audience is a strong default for most local campaigns
- Give the system variety: 3–5 genuinely different creatives (different hooks, formats, angles) per ad set — not 5 copies of one image
- Judge creatives, not micro-audiences: when results are bad in 2026, it’s almost always the creative or the offer
Q33What is the “learning phase” everyone mentions?
After launch (or any significant edit), Meta’s system spends a few days actively experimenting to find your best audience. Performance is unstable during this period — by design.
The system stabilises as conversions accumulate (the classic benchmark is ~50 optimisation events in a week; the exact thresholds have loosened, but the principle stands). Significant edits — creative swaps, big budget jumps, audience changes — restart the experiment.
- Launch, then keep your hands off for 3–4 days minimum
- Never judge a campaign on day one — morning-vs-evening panic decisions burn more budget than bad ads do
- Change ONE thing at a time, then wait again
Q34When do I kill a campaign, and how do I scale a winner?
Kill on data, scale gently.
- KILL when you’ve spent 3–5× your target cost-per-result with nothing to show, after the learning period — the offer or creative failed, not your luck
- SCALE by raising budget 20–30% every 3–4 days — doubling overnight resets learning and usually doubles your costs instead of your sales
- Watch frequency: past 3–4, your audience is tired — refresh creatives instead of raising budget
Staying Safe — Restrictions, Bans & Appeals
Restrictions are mostly predictable — which means they’re mostly preventable.
Q35Why do accounts really get restricted?
Nearly every case traces to one of these:
- Policy-violating ads (Part 8’s list) — especially repeated rejections
- Identity mismatch: fake names, new profiles, profile/card name conflicts
- Payment failures and card-swapping
- Suspicious patterns: multiple accounts, VPNs, logins from many devices/cities, sudden spend spikes
- Bad feedback: scam complaints, undelivered orders, misleading pages
Q36Can Meta ban me without warning? How do I stay ahead of it?
Yes — serious violations skip the warnings. Your early-warning system is the Account Quality page.
Check Account Quality (in Business Portfolio settings, or facebook.com/accountquality) every week like a bank statement. It shows rejected ads, restrictions, and required verifications while problems are still fixable.
DO THIS ▸ If something is restricted: appeal once, honestly, with your real documents. Multiple frantic appeals and “trick” fixes from YouTube make cases worse. And never “start fresh” with a new account — see Q16.
Q37Should I use a VPN to manage my accounts?
No. Consistency of device, network and location is itself a trust signal.
Logging in from Karachi, then a US VPN IP, then a shared device is exactly what hacked accounts look like. Manage your business from the same 1–2 trusted devices and connections. (Travelling is fine — expect an identity check, and pass it with your real info.)
Ecommerce in Pakistan
Where marketing meets operations — and where COD maths decides who survives.
Q38Do I need a website before selling?
Not to start — but yes to scale.
Plenty of Pakistani sellers make their first sales with Click-to-WhatsApp ads and manual ordering. But past a few orders a day, a proper store (Shopify or WordPress/WooCommerce) with a Pixel becomes essential — it’s what unlocks the Sales objective, retargeting and real optimisation.
Q39Should I sell on Daraz or build my own store?
They solve different problems — many sellers eventually do both:
| Daraz (marketplace) | Your own store | |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic | Built-in — customers already there | You buy every visitor with ads |
| Margins | Commission + fees + price-war pressure | Full margin control |
| Brand & data | Daraz owns the customer | You own the customer & retargeting data |
| Best for | Validating demand, price-competitive items | Brands, bundles, repeat customers |
Q40What is RTO, and why does everyone call it the COD killer?
RTO (return-to-origin) = COD orders that come back undelivered. You pay courier charges both ways and often lose the packaging — on a sale you already celebrated.
Typical Pakistani RTO runs 20–40% for careless sellers. At those rates, a “profitable” campaign is quietly bankrupt. Getting RTO under ~15% is a bigger profit lever than any ad optimisation.
- Confirm EVERY order on WhatsApp or call before dispatch — unconfirmed orders are where RTO lives
- Send tracking + dispatch message; couriers with good follow-up (TCS, Leopards, PostEx, Trax, M&P) earn their rates
- Block repeat refusers; offer a small discount for advance payment (JazzCash/Easypaisa/bank) to shift buyers off COD
Q41How many products should I start with, and what margins do I need?
1–3 validated products — priced at roughly 3× landed cost if you’re advertising with COD.
The maths: sell at PKR 3,000 with product + packaging costing 1,000. Ads eat ~600–900 per order, courier ~250, and RTO spreads another ~200–300 across delivered orders. Thin-margin products don’t survive this — which is why “cheap trending items” from saturated lists fail.
DO THIS ▸ Validate before scaling: one product, PKR 15–20k test spend, real orders and real RTO data. Kill or scale based on numbers, not feelings.
Q42Can I just copy a store that’s already winning?
Study them; never copy them.
Watch competitors’ ads (Meta Ad Library is free), read their reviews for gaps, learn their pricing. But copied creatives get reported and struck, copied brands get trademark complaints, and customers can smell a clone. Second-mover with a better offer wins; photocopier never does.
The 10 Costliest Beginner Mistakes
If you avoid only these, you’re ahead of 90% of beginners.
| # | Mistake | Why it costs you | Do instead |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Buying followers, pages or profiles | Dead engagement, hidden strikes, algorithmic distrust forever | Grow real, grow slow |
| 2 | Rushing ads on brand-new accounts | Classic restriction pattern; account dies at week 1 | Warm up profile, page & spend gradually |
| 3 | Payment carelessness | Failed payments & card-swapping trigger restrictions | One funded card, bills always clear |
| 4 | Wrong objective (Engagement for sales) | You buy likers, not buyers | Match objective to the business goal |
| 5 | Editing campaigns daily / judging day 1 | Every edit restarts learning; panic burns budget | 3–4 days hands-off, one change at a time |
| 6 | Falling for phishing & “agency account” offers | Lose the page, the balance, or both | No external links, no rented accounts |
| 7 | No order confirmation before dispatch | RTO eats the profit ads generated | Confirm every COD order on WhatsApp |
| 8 | Sharing passwords | One careless person = whole business gone | Roles via Business Portfolio only |
| 9 | Copying creatives & using copyrighted music | Strikes, muted videos, page restrictions | Own photos, licensed sounds, original angles |
| 10 | Chasing vanity metrics & cheap results | Cheap clicks ≠ customers; likes ≠ revenue | Track cost per SALE / qualified lead |
Jargon Decoder
The words marketers use like everyone knows them. Now you do.
| Term | What it actually means |
|---|---|
| Creative | The ad itself — the image, video and text people see |
| Funnel | The path from stranger ▸ interested ▸ customer (ad ▸ WhatsApp ▸ sale) |
| CPM | Cost per 1,000 times your ad is shown |
| CTR | Click-through rate — % of viewers who click your ad |
| Cost per result / CPA | What one sale, lead or conversation costs you in ad spend |
| ROAS | Return on ad spend — revenue ÷ ad cost (3× = PKR 3 back per PKR 1 spent) |
| Frequency | How many times the average person has seen your ad — past 3–4, they’re tired |
| Retargeting | Showing ads to people who already visited, watched or messaged |
| Landed cost | Product cost + shipping to you + packaging — your TRUE cost per unit |
| RTO | Return-to-origin — a COD order that comes back undelivered (you pay both ways) |
| Organic | Reach you didn’t pay for — your posts, Reels and shares |
| Conversion | The action you wanted: a purchase, a lead form, a WhatsApp message |
